They have a community-based approach to business and have earned the trust of their clients over many years. Recently they hired new staff members to attract a youger demographic through social networking and web marketing.

The Business Challenge

The client realized their Internet Usage Policy would require a change allowing access to certain websites and online communities for business purposes, and recognized this move may increase their exposure in two ways: (1) Risk of employees browsing to inappropriate or non-business websites with clients in the office and (2) Loss of client or corporate financial or other proprietary information due to a security breach.

The costs associated with the risks include:

The Solution

The client contacted Internet Security Corporation to track Internet usage, limit access to business-related websites and protect from information loss. We performed the following services prior to designing a solution:

• Document all Internet access from corporate network
  
• Report categories and specific domains as a percentage of Internet traffic
  
• Implement a flexible policy allowing access to a limited number of domains with ability to modify access 24x7x365

Internet Security Corporation installed a Fortinet FG-60B Unified Threat Management firewall at the gateway and configured our Secure Monitoring as a Service (SMaaS) for one month. We determined which website categories represented valid business-related traffic and what traffic should be blocked.

We recommened and implemented a policy blocking access to Instant Message, auction and other shopping websites, entertainment and celebrity websites and all inappropriate websites. We allowed access to news and information websites and all partner websites and portals.
